Keshi To Defend World Cup Provisional List On April 26

News of list has already been in the center of media coverage for weeks, with both the technical committee and the coach appearing to have collision on the choice of players. Chairman of the technical committee, Chris Green has recently stated:

"While we believe that only players that are playing well for their clubs should be invited because the World Cup is not a tea party, our job is a simple task. Keshi has the overall decision on who goes to Brazil and fits into his World Cup plan."

Meanwhile one of the committe members, who pleaded anonymity, told Leadership that they would not allow Keshi to name any of his misfire CHAN player for Brazil’s World Cup.

According to him, the committee will ensure that "the players the coach will invite for the World Cup merit the invitation". It would be recalled that the renowned Nigerian coach had previously mentioned that he may give opportunity to some of the boys that distinguished themselves in the South Africa’s tournament to fight for place in his World Cup squad.

As for the current attitude towards Keshi, the indications have recently emerged that the NFF may sack the coach after 2014 Brazil because of him neglecting their advice and assistance ahead of the tournament.

Man beats 2-yr-old son to death

LAGOS— An irate mob, yesterday, attempted to set a building on Fashola Street, Ejigbo, ablaze, where one of its occupants was alleged to have beaten his two year old son to death.
The suspect, identified as Oni Mama, a commercial motorcyclist, was alleged to have secretly buried the remains of his son around the area.
Report said the child, apparently hungry, was seen crying and chasing his father who was about moving out on his motorcycle, last Friday.
Out of anger, his father was said to have dragged him inside and allegedly hit him several times until he died.
Report said Oni Mama was later seen carrying a sack dripping with blood out of the building, consequent upon which curious tenants alerted policemen at Ejigbo.
According to reports, the suspect’s wife abandoned him few months ago for another man in the same Orilowo Ejigbo area.
Since then, the child was reportedly left in the care of any available neigbour, while his father went out to work.
Policemen at Ejigbo Division were said to have visited Oni Mama’s one room apartment and conducted a search. But their findings could not be ascertained.
They were, however, said to still be on the look out for the suspect whose whereabouts was unknown at press time.
Some of the tenants were said to have been taken to the station, where their statements were taken.
One of them reportedly said that the fleeing suspect was in the habit of beating his son, threatening that even if he killed him no one would do anything to him.
Attempts to reach the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide, on phone to ascertain the extent of Police investigation were unsuccessful.

World Bank tasks FG, New GDP should translate to better living standards

The World Bank, yesterday, reacted to the $510 billion Gross Domestic Product, GDP, announced by the Federal Government on Sunday, challenging the government to ensure that the figure translates to better living standards among Nigerians.

What matters is the per capital and what matters is how well our individuals are doing. I think the rebasing is great, at least we have a good sense of how large that economy is. ”Also, it is the most populous country in the region and it is fantastic we have this done but going forward, what matters and very important to everybody is productivity to generate other indicators,” Mr Francisco Ferreira, Chief Economist of the global bank told journalists at a briefing on the Economic Outlook Report on Africa, in Abuja.

The Chief Economist said the World Bank welcomed the new GDP figures and that the organization was optimistic of increased Foreign Direct Investment, FDI, into the Nigerian economy.
He, however, cautioned that mere GDP figures in themselves were not enough to attract foreign investors and that the Federal Government must ensure a conducive environment capable of ensuring high returns on investments.

Ferreira also noted that the fact that the Nigerian economy has overtaken that of South Africa in size was nothing for the latter to worry about. His words, ”I don’t think South Africa should worry about the recent development, if they want to worry, they can worry about labour situation, strikes and other issues, those things make South Africa less attractive. The Fact that Nigeria is largest economy is nothing to worry about.”

Ms. Punam Chuhan Pole, Team Leader, Africa’s Pulse Team disclosed that economic growth in Sub-Saharan Africa, SSA, continued to rise from 4.7 per cent in 2013 to a forecasted 5.2 per cent in 2014. This performance, she said was boosted by rising investment in natural resources and infrastructure, and strong household spending.

4 Critical Traits of Great Leaders

Most of us strive to become leaders. We want to do something great, be respected by our peers, make more money and acquire more responsibility. Overall, we want to make a difference at our job. However, most of us simply don’t know the proper way to gain heightened respect, confidence and admiration from those whom we work with.
In reality, there is no simple answer to leadership. It takes devotion, time and patience. Most importantly, it takes knowledge.
A firm understanding of leadership
Without a firm understanding of what makes someone more influential, you cannot begin to alter your beliefs, and practices accordingly.
Though, once aware of the traits that make someone more authoritative, you can formulate a plan to improve upon lacking areas and alter the behaviors preventing you from achieving management and executive status.
Below, you’ll find a list of traits that our sales and marketing headhunters look for in leaders, along with some exercises to enhance your influence and responsibility at work.

Defining the traits of leadership
1. Strength - Begin to carry yourself with poise and confidence. People are drawn to confidence and shy away from nervousness, lack of authenticity and insecurity.
How you feel about yourself will dictate your ability to lead and command authority. Essentially, if you don’t feel you’re important and deserving, don’t expect your co-workers to.
If you have come across as anxious and unassertive with your co-workers in the past, don’t focus on these shortcomings.
Your co-workers, like anyone else will have a short memory and so should you. From now on, think of the prior experiences as a learning tool rather than a future forecaster.
With that being said, here are some exercises on how to increase self-confidence and perceived strength:
a. Challenge the negative beliefs you have about yourself. Instead of focusing all your energy on what you don’t like about you, give equal weight to all your positive qualities.

b. Focus on past successes rather than failures. Don’t mull over what you’ve done incorrectly. It’s more productive to think about all the things you’ve done right in the past. Reinforce these thoughts repeatedly.

c. Stop always needing to be right. Understand there is nothing shameful about past work mistakes.

d. Stop looking to others for acceptance and happiness. Learn that you don’t need anyone’s approval for your own self-confidence.

e. The recruiters at KAS Placement strongly suggest that you let go of any anger that you are holding on to. Anger and resentment will prove a significant barrier to you becoming a leader at work.

2. Positive Energy - Leaders show positive energy and optimism, showering their people with a can-do attitude. This outlook draws co-workers to them and paves the way for influence, respect and admiration from others.
In terms of leadership, positive energy has a multitude of benefits and is nothing short of a crucial component.
When you’re positive, you think in terms of solutions, not problems, you inspire risk taking, tend to be more resilient and think more clearly.
Moreover, you are more assertive and your candor allows for quicker, more open communication amongst the other employees. This is the foundation of strong leadership.

3. Passion - Being passionate about your job means possessing a heartfelt, deep and authentic excitement about work. This excitement is infectious and naturally will draw others to your way of thinking.
People follow positivity, effectiveness, intelligence and resiliency. All of which are byproducts of loving what you do.
Until you learn to love work, you can’t hope to display the necessary positive energy leadership requires.
Either proactively search for the perfect employment or train yourself to become more passionate in your current job. Regardless, make a firm decision to stay or leave and follow through with it.
Here are a few ways how to increase your passion for work:
a. Increase your performance. Leaders do everything possible to increase the effectiveness of their work. They put in the extra time and sincerely enjoy what they do partly because others admire their efforts.

b. Think about what is going right rather than obsessing about your problems. Understand that no job is going to be perfect and create a reality that is more upbeat and success focused.

c. Stop focusing on what people “owe” you and begin focusing on what you can do to standout.

4. Selflessness - Leaders are selfless. They are more interested in group achievements as opposed to chasing their own goals.
By consistently pouring out encouragement, caring and recognition, your co-workers will become more drawn to you. Regardless of whether or not you are management, take every opportunity to inject self-confidence into those who earned it.
In the end

Most significant things at work and in life require work, study and most important, practice. Leadership is no different. Understand that no one is born a leader. Rather, they decide to mold themselves into one.
